We are proud to share that Ting Huang ’21, psychology, program coordinator of the McNair Scholars Program, has been selected to participate in the MEAEOPP Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI), a highly respected leadership development program within the TRIO professional community.
MEAEOPP (the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel) is the regional professional association that supports and advances TRIO and other educational opportunity programs across Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The Emerging Leaders Institute prepares rising professionals for leadership within TRIO programs and professional associations.
Ting Huang is a proud graduate of the UMBC McNair Scholars Program (Class of 2021) and is honored to continue serving the community that helped shape her academic journey. She is currently a Ph.D. student in the Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Educational Policy program at the University of Maryland, College Park. As an emerging scholar-practitioner in student affairs, Ting’s research and professional commitments center on supporting first-generation, low-income, and underserved students in higher education. She is especially passionate about examining the lived experiences of Asian American students, whose diverse realities are often obscured by the “model minority” myth.
Ting’s continued engagement in TRIO and educational opportunity work reflects both her scholarly interests and her deep commitment to advancing equity in higher education.
Her selection reflects not only professional promise but also a commitment to service, collaboration, and advancing opportunity for low-income and first-generation students.
Ting now joins a distinguished UMBC tradition.
A Legacy of TRIO Leadership at UMBC
UMBC has a long history of cultivating TRIO leaders who serve beyond campus:

- Lynda P. Robertson – MEAEOPP Past President, 1989-90
- Corris P.A. Davis – MEAEOPP Past President, 2009-11
- Katrina L. Concholar – MEAEOPP Past President, 2013-14
In addition:
- Corris P.A. Davis participated in the Emerging Leaders Institute from 2001–2003 and later served on the ELI Faculty from 2005–2020.
- Peter DeCrescenzo, SSS Assistant Director, participated in the 2018 ELI cohort.
Ting’s selection continues this powerful leadership pipeline.
Why This Matters
Our work is grounded in fostering not only student growth but professional growth. Just as we cultivate scholarly identity and leadership in our students, we cultivate leadership in our staff. Participation in programs like ELI reflects our office’s broader commitment to:
- Professional excellence
- Civic engagement within TRIO networks
- Cross-institutional collaboration
- Sustaining TRIO’s legacy of advocacy and access
Ting’s participation signals both her individual promise and UMBC’s continued role in shaping the future of TRIO leadership.
Congratulations, Ting!
We are excited to support Ting as she embarks on this leadership journey and look forward to the contributions she will make both within AOP and throughout the MEAEOPP community.
Please join us in congratulating Ting Huang on this outstanding achievement!
