The Senior Director of the Office of Academic Opportunity Programs provides strategic and administrative leadership for programs supporting low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students. The role oversees budgets, personnel, compliance, and program development, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and federal requirements. The Senior Director cultivates campus and community partnerships, secures external funding, and drives data-informed improvements to enhance student outcomes. This position directly supervises program directors and staff, guiding operations that serve both pre-college and college students in their academic success journey.
Corris is an alumna of Western High School, the oldest all-female public school in the nation. She attended UMBC as a Meyerhoff Scholar and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. Because she believes non scholæ sed vitæ discimus- we learn not for the school, but for life, she has completed graduate coursework in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Measurement, Statistics, and Evaluation. Corris earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy with a concentration in Evaluation and Analytical Methods. Her dissertation examined the relationship between undergraduate research and graduate school enrollment using an integrated college choice model as a framework.

Kerra Trusty, native of Baltimore, MD is the current Project Director for the UMBC’s Upward
Bound Program. She is also a Licensed Social Worker. She has been a dedicated TRIO professional for 19 years. She began her journey as an undergraduate intern with MSU’s UBP.
Ms. Trusty is a compassionate, empathetic professional who sincerely cares for her students,
parents and team. She doesn’t view her profession as work instead her perspective is honoring TRIO as an extension of her family. Her biggest accomplishments in life are the connections and relationships she’s honed as a trusted family member (daughter, sister, friend, confidant, and colleague). Her convictions are centered on character and how you treat others in this lifetime. Also, trained as a certified facilitator, her ability to lead groups is impactful as she allows individuals to always feel a sense of trust and comfort. She exhibits leadership and practices a diplomatic approach to every facet of her life. She has facilitated several workshops within TRIO and other educational/professional settings.

The Assistant Director of UMBC’s Upward Bound Math Science program oversees academic components, ensuring grant objectives are met. Responsibilities include academic advising, recruitment, supervising instructional and residential staff, and managing the Summer Residential Program. The AD collaborates with target schools to track student progress, supports participants’ college preparation, and engages families. The role combines program administration, staff management, and direct student support to advance the academic success of underrepresented high school students in STEM.

Rev. Dr. Michael A. Hunt, a unique blend of advocate, educator, and administrator hailing from Baltimore, is deeply committed to creating environments where everyone feels valued and welcomed within institutional structures. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and a Master of Divinity from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Michael’s diverse career spans university and college administration, middle and high school math instruction, and musical vocalization. His dedication to social justice education and his role as a change catalyst, guiding students and institutions towards a more equitable and inclusive future, are well-known. Michael obtained his Ph.D. at UMBC in the Language, Literacy, and Culture Program. Michael seeks to bridge the gap between spirituality and STEM education, offering culturally nuanced resources that promote self-esteem and holistic critical mentoring. With the belief that his living shall not be in vain, Michael is deeply committed to leaving a lasting, positive impact on the world.

Ting Huang graduated as a UMBC McNair Scholar in 2021 and is honored to continue the service of the program. She has had various experiences supporting students in higher education, including roles as a Graduate Writing Assistant (Writing Center) and a Graduate Teaching Assistant (Dept. of Political Science) with Towson University. She is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland, College Park’s Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Educational Policy program. As a budding researcher in the field of student affairs, Ting is committed to continue serving first-generation, low-income, and underserved students in higher education, particularly Asian American students whose lived experiences differ drastically from the model minority myth.
